Fall Decorating … sometimes means doing the dirty work. After dusty drive by traffic, rain and dog noses, I find making time to wash windows and relayed decor is plenty of redecorating. If you do the job of decorating your home for all seasons, it should not need too much transition seasonally, like our grandmothers may have done. Changing bedding to winter wear soon and adding to Summertime sheers a heavy and warm drape is more a function than a feature. It does wake us up to the time of year, as we close the windows overnight to keep that warm air of the sunny day inside til tomorrow. Today’s modern homes faire well with a single window treatment that both keep your space warm in winter and cool in summer. A great set of cotton sheets, 600 thread count is my favorite, with a flannel fitted sheet for winter, and a down comforter is the most comfortable bed ensemble. New age microfibers, jersey, don’t stand a chance next to natural fibers like cotton, flax, hemp or bamboo. A fresh bed, sleep like a baby. Clean windows , well that’s a wonderful way to wake up and make the most of those short winterlit days. For more decorating advice or help with a particular project, email at ccomforts@comcast.net.

Plug into your executable ideas and design object needs by looking through magazines, catalogs, newspapers and websites that share your desired colors, and images that are pleasing to your style.

Compile a file, a notebook or diary of sorts where you can see a trend and begin to hone in on your renovation plan. This can take time to evolve. A good stretch of cold Winter weather, warm wood stove and my pile of “gonna read this someday” literature gives me the time to finger through each periodical and earmark or scrapbook the ideas and pictures that are indicative of the project I am trying to round out in my mind.

I am a floor plan junkie so a never ending file of plans and elevations plague my files and piles of my minds work.
If you decide to work with a design professional or contractor it helps tremendously to have an idea of your look, palette and knowledge of products that you would like to consider. Then, from your lead, let the designer take your vision to the top. That is what we are so good at.
